Better Together is the Neighbors Plus motto, and we strive to live into our mission of “Building a stronger community by educating, guiding, and caring.”
Oversight is provided by the Neighbors Plus Board. All Board members are part of Harderwyk Ministries or Neighbors Plus programs. Two deacons and one pastor of Harderwyk serve as Board members, and others with interests and skills in the work of Christian Community Development.
Founded in 1996, Neighbors Plus started as a pilot to test ways that suburban churches can assist in the needs of the community as a whole. Neighbors Plus is a nonprofit Christian Community Development Organization with one church partner, Harderwyk Ministries, on the north side of Holland. Our target area is the entire Holland/Zeeland community.
The programs of Neighbors Plus fall in three categories: educating, guiding, and caring. Our focus is on adults, students, children, families, and building supportive relationships. All programs depend on volunteers who share their time, knowledge, skills, and love with our community and neighbors.
Since 1996, Neighbors Plus has been shaped by the needs in our community, supportive roles requested by other community agencies, gifts and passions of Harderwyk members, and logical next steps to the work envisioned by the staff. Neighbors Plus is continually growing, reevaluating, and starting new ministries that fit within our mission and motto.
