Neighbors Plus is a non-profit Christian Community Development Organization that provides programming to help individuals, children, and families reach next-step goals. Partnered with Harderwyk Ministries on the north side of Holland, our purpose is to share time, knowledge, skills, and love with our neighbors and our community. The vision of Neighbors Plus is to build a stronger community by educating, guiding, and caring.
We are currently hiring a part-time teacher to help in all facets of the Alternative Suspension Program (ASP) and Study Hub for middle school students, including one-on-one and small group tutoring, developing behavior plans, and coordinating community service and career exploration outings.
Responsibilities:
Job Requirements:
- A strong personal faith in Jesus Christ.
- Teaching and/or classroom experience. Experience with at-risk students desired.
- Enjoys and relates well to students, especially those in middle school.
- Ability to lead and help students be accountable for the next steps.
- Effective communication skills with students, families, teachers, and school administrators.
- Dependable, available 2 days per week (Monday & Tuesday) from approximately 8:00 a.m. - 3:45 p.m.
- Able to obtain a chauffeur’s license if needed.

Responsibilities:
- Assist the ASP Director in leadership of all facets of the Alternative Suspension Program & Study Hub during the scheduled school year (following the West Ottawa school calendar).
- Work individually and/or with small groups of students who have been suspended or expelled from West Ottawa, Holland Public, and other area schools, encouraging behavior changes, and completing all necessary schoolwork.
- In collaboration with West Ottawa staff, participate in after-school tutoring at both West Ottawa middle school buildings.
- Assist the ASP Director to further develop behavior management, as well as coordinate community service and career exploration facets of work with students.
- Assist with occasional parent communication.

Alternative Suspension Program (ASP)
Do you own a business or work for a local business that would welcome a small group of students? As part of our ASP program we take the students on "Career Explore" opportunities to learn more about businesses and career paths! If you would like to learn more about partnering with us, please contact Angela Stegenga at angela@harderwyk.com
English as a Second Language Course (ESL)
Twice a week our ESL students meet to practice conversation in English with community members who speak English. Whether you can come once a week or once a month, we would love to have you join us for an evening of conversation with students who are from all over the world! Kids Hope, Kids Hope Next, and After School Recess (ASR)
If you love spending time with kids and have one hour per week to spare during school hours, this is the ministry for you! Kids Hope is an opportunity to mentor elementary students while Kids Hope Next mentors work with middle school students. Many of these students also join us for our After School Recess ministry. Meet Up & Eat Up
During the summer months we partner with West Ottawa schools to provide a nutritious meal and time for socialization at two locations within our community. If you have time to spend an hour or two with kids once a month or once a week during the summer lunch hour, we would love to have you join us! Park2Park Half-Marathon and 5k Race
Whether you're a runner, volunteer, or cheering squad we would love for you to be a part of this annual fundraiser that helps Neighbors Plus sustain our ministries in the community! This annual race is held on the 4th Saturday of September, beginning and ending at the Ottawa County Fairgrounds.
